Tilapia Export To Brazil
Brazilian tilapia producer and seafood processor GeneSeas continues to be optimistic about the 2019 Brazilian tilapia and shrimp market. “Because of the economic recovery, the Brazilian shrimp market in 2019 will be very positive,” GeneSeas CEO Roberto Haug told the media. He predicted that the company’s shrimp sales revenue will increase by about 9% this year.
According to the Brazilian trade agency ABCC, Brazil’s shrimp production is expected to increase by 17% to 90,000 metric tons in 2019.
GeneSeas plans to increase its tilapia production by 21% to 17,000 metric tons in 2019. GeneSeas has entered most of Brazil’s sales network, which will also keep sales of tilapia products growing in 2019.
The recovery of the Brazilian market should be a very good opportunity for Chinese tilapia and shrimp exporters. China’s tilapia industry is very mature in scale and competitive in price. Shrimp value-added products are also very competitive in the international market. Due to the production capacity of tilapia and shrimp in Brazil, China’s tilapia and shrimp products exported to the Brazilian market should be positioned in value-added products in order to compete with Brazilian domestic products.
